Most Efficient Vessels in 2025: Half of the Winners Use Catchwise

When Catchwise published the ranking of the most catch-efficient vessels in Norway for 2025, the goal was primarily to do something fun while giving recognition to those who make the most of their days at sea.

Norway's most catch-efficient vessels in 2025

The ranking is an informal initiative created to generate some buzz around catch efficiency and highlight skilled people in the industry. Efficiency was measured as tons of fish landed per day at sea, based on catch data from all of 2025.

"We created the list to honor crews and vessels that have worked hard and delivered solid results," says Tomas, CEO of Catchwise. "What has surprised us the most is how much response there has been, both in the media and in the industry."

The ranking has been featured in Kyst og Fjord, Sunnmørsposten, and Kystmagasinet, among others.

Many familiar names on the list

Catchwise notes that several of the vessels performing well in the ranking are also users of the service. For comparison, about 20 percent of Norwegian fishing vessels use Catchwise, while the proportion on the top list is higher: nearly one in three of the vessels in the ranking (18 out of 60) are Catchwise users. Looking only at first-place winners, the proportion is even clearer – about half of the winners use Catchwise.

"For us, it's especially nice to see that so many who use Catchwise are also represented in the ranking. We think it's great that those who are most forward-thinking see benefits in adopting new tools like Catchwise," says Tomas.

Close dialogue with skippers

Catchwise is built in collaboration with skippers to make the service as useful as possible for those at sea. The response to the new features that have been launched has been positive, and 2025 was also a year of clear growth for Catchwise. According to Tomas, the number of users doubled during the year.

"We learn a lot from seeing how people in the industry actively work to become more efficient. It gives us both inspiration and direction when we further develop the tool," he says.

Catchwise hopes the ranking can continue to be a low-threshold way to highlight good performances and create conversations about efficiency.
